Public Life

Nineteen years in the BC Legislature, and a reputation that crossed every party line.

At age 68 when most people retire, Ralph began a new career in public office. He served five terms as MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano, and held three ministerial posts. Working with President Strangway of UBC, Ralph sponsored legislation creating what would become Canada’s most successful (based on student polling) undergraduate institution: Quest University, based in Squamish, BC. He left politics undefeated at 87, widely regarded as one of the most respected members the Legislature had known.
